At BioWaste, we take responsibility for treating your medical waste very seriously. Our autoclave is periodically tested to ensure that your waste is 100% non-infectious once treatment is completed. The use of biological indicators requires a device that contains a type of microorganism that can only be killed when exposed to sterilizing conditions. The biological indicator contains the bacteria Geobacillus stearothermophillus in its spore stage. This microbe is highly resistant to steam sterilization and is, therefore, the perfect test subject. Killing it guarantees that the optimum conditions necessary for steam sterilizations have been met. This testing is an extremely important component of the success of our treatment.
An autoclave is a machine that uses pressure and steam for a period of time to achieve and maintain sterilization. High steam temperatures and pressure are key ingredients to successfully sterilize and kill microorganisms and spores.
Once the waste is treated biological indicators are removed from the waste and are measured afterward to test for the effectiveness of the sterilization process.
The biological indicators are incubated for 24 hours, after incubation time we can determine the effectiveness of the sterilization process.
Waste to Energy Incineration
Our waste to energy incineration is achieved by introducing the waste to a combustion chamber at extreme temperatures. This combustion chamber is a self-sustaining process. During the process of burning the heat from the fire is used to make steam, which turns a turbine-driven generator to produce electricity or used to heat industrial processes.
Pollution is controlled with equipment is used to cool, collect and clean combustion gases. This equipment is under state and federal standards. The residual material from the combustion process is collected for processing and metal extraction. Any ferrous and non-ferrous metals are extracted for recycling. This process also reduces the volume of said waste by 80% before being disposed of at a landfill.
